Emerging Technology, Part 1

Intel creates more efficent and faster processors like the transistors. The new transistors have channels that carry the curretn throughout it. Intel has begun a mass-producing process based on 3-D Transistors. According to Moore's Law the prediction that the number of transistors per chip will double very two years. The on-and-off current flow in conventional chips is conrolled by an electric field generated by a gate that sits on top of a wide, conducting channel embedded in a silicon substrate. With mostly no leakeage current, a transistior can turn on and off cleaner and quicker. According to Intel the new transistors can switch up to 37 percent faster than the previous transistors. Also the faster the switches, the faster the chips. From what I read, I assume that Intel will be very sucsessful in the future. I think this because Intel says that there is room for improvement within 5 years so if they need to make changes to the transistor they can. I was very surprised that what I thought this article was going to be about was completely different than what it actually was. The technologies that were considered emerging then may be used now. I couldnt find any of the technologies that are used now.
